U.S. citizens traveling to The Bahamas must present:
- A valid U.S. passport book
- Proof of return or onward travel
Important
- Passport cards are not valid for international air travel to or from The Bahamas.
- Vessel/seafarer cards, REAL IDs, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, and Global Entry cards are not accepted replacements for a valid passport book.
- Passports should remain valid for the duration of travel.
Visa Requirements
U.S. citizens traveling for tourism generally do not require a Bahamas visa for stays under 90 days.
U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders)
Permanent Residents must travel with:
- A valid passport from their country of citizenship
- A valid U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
- Proof of return or onward travel
A Green Card alone is not sufficient for international air travel.
Depending on nationality, some Permanent Residents may also require:
- A Bahamas visa
- A valid U.S. visa for re-entry into the United States
Bahamian citizens traveling to the United States must present:
- A valid Bahamian passport
- A valid U.S. visa or other authorized travel documentation
- Proof of return or onward travel if requested
Important
- Bahamas voter cards, national insurance cards, residency cards, or driver’s licenses are not valid travel documents for international air travel.
- Expired passports are not accepted.

- A valid B1/B2 U.S. visitor visa
or - Other approved U.S. travel authorization

Bahamian Residents (Non-Citizens)
Residents of The Bahamas who are not Bahamian citizens must travel with:
- A valid passport from their country of citizenship
Bahamas residency documentation - Any required visas for both The Bahamas and the United States
3. Canada, United Kingdom & European Union Travelers
Required Documents
Travelers from Canada, the UK, and most countries must present:
- A valid passport book valid for at least six (6) months beyond the date of travel.
- Proof of return or onward travel
- Supporting travel documentation if requested by immigration authorities
Important
- Passport cards and national ID cards are not valid for international air travel to The Bahamas.
- Travelers connecting through the United States must comply with all U.S. entry and transit requirements.
ESTA Requirements
Travelers entering or transiting through the United States under the Visa Waiver Program must have:
- An approved ESTA authorization
- A passport valid for ESTA travel
This commonly applies to UK and EU passport holders.
U.S. Visa Requirements
Travelers who are not eligible for ESTA may require:
- A valid U.S. tourist or transit visa (commonly B1/B2 or C visa categories)
Passengers without valid U.S. entry authorization may be denied boarding for flights routing through the United States.
Bahamas Visa Requirements
While many Canadian, UK, and EU travelers may enter The Bahamas visa-free for short stays, certain nationalities may still require a Bahamas visa depending on citizenship and length of stay.
